Top Beginner Jump Rope Mistakes

[Music] yo what’s up on my international players today we’re here to talk about jump rope mistakes now here’s the deal when your first game start with the jump rope you’re gonna make mistakes there’s no way around it this video is to make sure you don’t make the most common mistakes that I personally use to make myself storytime so about 1314 months ago dan and I came together to create sin do fitness in a real way we’re like yo let’s go all-in on jump roping so I knew when I went all-in on jump rope I had to figure out how to jump rope like a ninja and the way I was able to transition over the last 13 14 months from going from a novice to now being pretty skilled with the jump rope is by avoiding these top jump rope mistakes I’m about to get into in this video now before I get into these top jumperer mistakes and how to avoid them I want to mention that we still got this free fall week challenge for y’all so if you want to join that you can click the link in the first line of shall we alright the first thing I’m going to start off with is where you’re holding the jump rope a lot of people don’t talk about this but it’s extremely important and so we’re gonna dive deep into where to put your hands on the rope right now and so you can see here you have very little control if you’re grabbing the bottom of the jump rope the the rope is loose and it makes it harder to do tricks so just get into a good rhythm what you want to do is choke up on the handles so your fingers are very close to the actual steel cable in the ball bearing this will give you a lot more control to rope and make the spin a lot smoother next we just want to talk to you about the importance of having a good high quality jump rope there’s a lot of jump ropes out there and a lot of really inexpensive ones and the reason why we talk about the cross rope so much is because it is the highest quality rope out there and it does make a significant difference in your ability to jump rope with more skill and your ability to jump rope period [Music] so the next thing we’re in a cover here is a very subtle example but what it looks like to have your wrist too far apart so you can see here when your wrists are too far apart when you try to do tricks for example to criss cross you end up tripping over the rope because it’s spread too long right and so that means there’s not enough depth on the rope field to make it underneath your feet and so you can see here it’s very evident that if your wrists are just of a few degrees closer to each other so you’re bringing your ease you can see I just demonstrated there you’re actually bringing your wrist close to each other it’s easy to view Criss crosses it’s easier to just get more fluid with jump rope and be able to get a consistent rhythm with what you’re doing and so beginner mistake a lot of people make is after their wrists too far our parts like trip over the rope just remember whenever you’re doing any tricks bring your wrist just a little bit closer together and it’s gonna feel a lot smoother for you next we want to talk about is having just straight up good posture when you’re jumping rope you want to create this nice alignment from this crown of your head down through the balls of your feet so as you’re hopping in your jumping rope on the balls of your feet you want to keep your shoulders back and down and you want to really focus on keeping that core and those glutes tight so you’re not bending over you have good posture throughout the movement the next thing you want to talk about is how high you’re gonna be jumping off the ground when you are jumping rope and so a lot of people when they first get started try to jump high in the air so they don’t skip so they don’t trip over the rope but really that that’s the opposite of what ends up happening when you jump higher in the air a lot of times your hands come up and so when your hands come up you are also bringing the bottom of the jump rope up and you end up tripping over the rope when you come just in half inch or an inch off the ground you have much more control you’re able to spin the road more smoothly and your body isn’t again isn’t flailing around all over the place and you’re controlling this movement the final thing I want to talk about is just your ability to get into a flow say while you’re jumping your rope if you’re really self-conscious by yourself and you’re worried about it you know tripping or people see you tripping up just let all of that go all that you know worry about like messing up or like not you know getting as good as you want to as fast you’d like to like don’t worry about that stuff the whole point of jumping rope is just to take care of yourself so the fact that you’re even doing it is a win in itself now beyond that if you want to focus on enjoying it even more you want to really just get into the state of being where the only thing that exists is every skip of that rope and so you want to even close your eyes sometimes and focus on just the movement of that rope or if you’re listening to music just to be as every beat drops and so put yourself in the state of being where you’re   1. Thanks for the tips, I just started jump rope yesterday as I lift a lot and I don't do any cardio training (I just don't like running and currently don't own a bike) it felt like a good and cheap alternative, but I'm struggling to correctly do this and this will help.

  5. I didn't know jump rope was an exercise when i was a kid … i was doing criss cross then and i could jumprope for an hour but now i barely last for 30 minutes since i knew jumprope is an exercise

  6. I used to do a lot of work out in cardio except jump rope single, to date I do two step jump and just can't get rid of it. What is the trick to get me to single step jump rope?

I was about to subscribe….and watched this video thinking these were experts in Fitness methods, which I happen to be for decades teaching all facets of it….and I saw they did not include the most damaging to the body, mistake done by rope jumpers….and that is, jumping on cement. Never jump rope on asphault, cement or concrete. Always jump on a suspended wooden surface that has nothing under it. Balcony, 2nd floor of a house, deck, boardwalk. Or, if none of those are available, get a wooden pallet from the local home depot and throw a big rubber floor mat over it to avoid the rope catching in between the planks of wood. You're welcome guys. Not subscribing.

  11. An older doc who just happen to beat the gym with me to witness my stuggle told me that when you first start leaning dont wear ear phones. It throws off the equilibrium making it easier to trip over the rope. It helped me alot

  12. Didn't know this existed either I just made my first video on jump roping actually and going to make it one of my core workouts to keep me from being bored while residing in Asia. I think I will be watching more videos so I can learn more stuff about jump roping but overall I had most of the technique down I didn't jump super high, decent grip on handles but not sure if my hands were positioned correctly when gripping jump rope and will have to review my elbow placement.

  17. Been jumping rope for only a week and my body is already experiencing so many changes. I love the look my body has. I don't have a weigh machine and I think it's actually a blessing now that my old one broke and I never got around to buying a new one! Have been experiencing some pains in my chest and legs, though. I realized I was jumping too high so when my feet would hit the ground it would hurt my chest area. I'm wondering if there are any good shock absorbing mats out there? Does anyone recommend any good one? I usually jump on my pavement, but it's too hard. I try jumping sometimes up and down in my wooden floor room. But my home's really old and creaky and I don't want the foundation to mess up. But it's so interesting that jump roping and jumping feels different on top of different platforms. And these tips do save a life. Lol. Jump your rope!

  21. I appreciate you want to sell jump ropes but your #2 is wrong. You only need to spend a few dollars on a rope, we need to educate people that they don't need to spend a ton of money on a rope to begin with. I won't name them, but there is a dude on YT, his ropes are $12 and when you watch his videos, you can see for yourselves that you don't need a $200 jump rope system.

  24. Did my first jump rope workout. 450 cals in 30 mins. I’m 278 lbs. need to lose 80lbs. Went home happy and then sat at desk to work. In lots of pain last ten hours due to planter fasciitis. It triggered a relapse I haven’t had in a while. Can’t even walk on left foot. Does this go away with when you make a stronger foot by jump roping? Or does PF and jump rope not Co-exist? So bummed. I had the best workout today in 5 years. Dear jump rope guys. Do you have a video on this? I’m new to your channel. Couldn’t find one. Tnx.
